Nyx color lip balm in Xie Xie: Swatches and review

I know everyone's been waiting forever for the Revlon lip butters to hit India but looks like we're in for a long wait! But if you're looking for a similar lip product with the hydration of a lip balm and pigmentation of a lipstick do check out the NYX colour lip balms. I can't really say if they're as good as the Revlon lip butters but these seem on the same lines as those.
Sadly these aren't easily available in India barring a few retail sites like StyleCraze but you can get these from BeautyJoint or CherryCulture for $6 a pop. That's roughly Rs.300. Not too bad, right?

Ok so on with the review... There are a total of 10 shades available in this I think and all have been named Thank You in different languages. Cute no? There's even one called Shukria. :) The one I have is called Xie Xie and is a pretty peachy pink shade.
These come in a black plastic casing with a twist up thingie at the bottom like a lip balm and have a black lid. The look and feel of the whole thing is just like a tinted lip balm. But these are surprisingly not waxy at all and feel very nice on the lips. These are not too soft too like the NYX lipsticks so will withstand the Indian summers and not melt away. I guess these are nice to have in your bag for those chapped lipped days when any lipstick will do further damage.

Yay for:

  • Very hydrating
  • Non waxy
  • Decent pigmentation
  • No smell or flavour
  • A nice range of colours available from nudes to bright pinks
  • Doesnt feather or bleed
  • Won't melt in the summers
  • Easy to carry around
  • Pretty inexpensive if bought at dollar rate
  • Cruelty free

Boo for:
  • The top is flat like a lip balm which makes application slightly difficult
  • Availability
  • Lasts only about 2 hours

Overall, I love how these feel on the lips. Hydrating without being waxy. I would have picked up a few more but I wanna wait for the Revlon lip butters. Hey Revlon, hurry up, will you!

Super primer for open pores: NYX studio perfect primer in Clear

Do you have large pores? Did you have acne as a teen? Do you have acne marks on your skin? Is your makeup going stale within an hour? Is your skin affecting your self esteem? Do I sound like a cheesy teleshopping ad? Well then look no further than this super duper primer from NYX. The NYX studio perfect photo-loving primer in clear is specially formulated for open pores. Though I think any primer should help fill pores. There's also a couple of other options available in this. There's a lavender one for dull skin and a green one for redness. My main requirement from a primer is to fill my pores (aftermath of terrible acne when growing up) and to help my makeup last longer without oxidising coz of my oily skin. Yup, I'm so blessed!
This one form NYX costs $12 if you buy from BeautyJoint or CherryCulture but costs Rs.2450 if you buy from any Indian sites for 30mL! Crazy right?

This comes in a clear plastic squeezy tube which has a matte finish with a shiny black screw on cap and a thin nozzle which makes it very easy to get the product out.

This primer is nothing but silicones and parabens to preserve all that silicone. So if you're allergic to silicone stay away. Others, read on. Naturally, being all silicone this has great slip and gives a silky smooth feeling. A teeny tiny bit is enough to cover your whole face. But make sure you don't apply too much coz it can make the skin look greasy. To cover the whole face you probably need only about a small pea size. Smooth this over your face and wait a couple of minutes before applying your foundation to let the primer dry n settle down. I generally apply this over moisturiser even though I have oily skin. So girls, never ever skip moisturiser.
Once the primer has set in about a minute or so you can smooth your foundation over this. This provides a great base for the foundation as it spreads more easily. You'll also be easily able to achieve a flawless look as it covers the pores too, kinda like a transparent filling and when your foundation is applied over it, it makes the surface look even. I use a stick foundation and blend it with my fingers but this should work well with liquid foundations too I suppose.
I love how it makes my skin look flawless and smooth and it also keeps the shine at bay. It makes your makeup look fresh for longer but may not necessarily affect wear time. What I mean is - say your foundation sticks on for about 6 hours without primer, then by using this also you'll only be able to get 6 hours of wear time out of your foundation but it'll stay fresh for longer. For instance, if you find your foundation oxidises or goes dull in 3 hours, this'll probably keep it fresh for 5.
I had acne as a teen and still get the occasional pimple but this hasn't broken me out. I like wearing this to weddings and parties where I know I'd end up dancing or sweating and need my face looking fresh for longer.
Top off your foundation with loose powder or compact to keep it fresh.

See the photos below for proof. Oh and I've shot the pics in super close macro mode hence you might still see slight appearance of pores in the pic with the primer n foundation. But in person, the skin really looks flawless and smooth.

Yay for:
Covers/fills pores

  • Makes it easier to spread and blend foundation over this
  • Gives a flawless look
  • Keeps makeup fresh for longer
  • Holds blusher/bronzed better
  • Keeps foundation from oxidising
  • Prevents skin from getting too oily
  • Squeezy tube dispenses right amount of product
  • Packaging allows to see how much is left
  • Doesn't break me out
  • Not tested on animals
  • Very economical, if bought at dollar rate.
  • Would suit all skintones and types.

Boo for:
  • Doesn't make makeup last longer
  • Contains parabens
  • Expensive if bought in India
  • Availability is an issue

Overall, this is a great product if you want something to fill your pores or keep your makeup from oxidising or going dull. Will hold up even if you're dancing and sweating. But make sure you buy it at dollar rate from BeautyJoint or CherryCulture coz it's just way too expensive in India.

6 shades of NYX soft matte lip creams swatched and reviewed.

Ok NYX is fast becoming one of my favourite brands, next to Inglot of course. And I loved these soft matte lip creams so much that I bought all colours that I thought would work on me. I now own 6 of these. Yes, six! In fact, I do this with everything. I see a dress I really like, I need to pick it up in at least 2 colours, if not more. Once, I bought this one particular shirt in all 5 available colours. Yep, I'm pretty mad that way. Oh but I digress. So I'll quickly swatch all the 6 shades and briefly review each. You can read a full review of these here.

Stockholm: A Peachy nude shade that is perfect for Indian tones esp around nc40 coz this is the perfect nude without giving you "concealer lips". The light peachy tones give this colour. This shade goes pretty opaque and would cover any pigmentation on lips too. Dries soft matte like all other shades.

Antwerp: A medium peachy pink shade that is perfect for the office with neutral eye makeup or even smokey eyes. Very versatile shade. One of my faves. Goes on slightly sheer but can be built up and dries to a nice matte finish.

San Paolo (I think they mean Sao Paolo): a bright coral pink shade that again is not too dark nor too light. I like pairing this with shimmery eyeshadow and a winged liner. Goes on fully opaque. But I'm not such a fan of this shade coz corals don't flatter my cool-undertoned complexion so much. Might work well on most Indian skin tones though. I'm a freak, yes. :/

Milan: A blue based light pink shade. But not milky light, you know what I mean? When the colour is lighter than your skin tone. I'm nc40 and this is a nice light pink on me. Works great when worn lightly as a stain with lip balm over it.

Addis ababa: This is a bright fuchsia (pink with strong blue undertones) that really works well against my NC40 skin without looking too loud. On someone fairer, it might look too bright. But the best part is that this can be worn as a stain or as a full on matte lip colour. This is probably the sheerest of all shades so it gives the effect of a stain rather than a full on matte lipstick which actually works pretty well for this shade. Love love.

Monte Carlo: This is a blue based red with pinkish undertones thats completely opaque and can be used as a stain (it'll look like a deep pink) or as a proper matte lip colour. Intense pigmentation and beautiful colour. Works well against my skin and I think it'd suit all skin tones. However, if you want a warmer orange-red, look at Amsterdam. I didn't buy it coz I already have a warm red matte lippie in my stash.

So these shades I think would work on most Indian skin tones. Which ones are you picking up?

Oh and a quick thanks to everyone who's following my blog. I'm gonna be hosting a giveaway very soon as a little token of appreciation. Would be including mostly NYX stuff. Eye stuff and some nail paints.. Just getting those things in so I can take photos n tempt everyone. :p

NYX Round Lipgloss in "Pinky Natural": Swatches and Review

This was a part of my first BeautyJoint haul. This is one of the best products from NYX. Now that I've already given away my verdict, you may choose to stop reading the review and just look at the photos or read on to know why these top my list. :)
NYX round lip glosses are available for $1.75 (Rs.100) from BeautyJoint and are available in a total of some 36 shades I think of which only about 5 are non shimmer, non frost- Pinky Natural, Natural, Real Nude, Pink and Mauve of which I bought Pinky Natural coz it looked like a very pretty pink. And it is! This shade is a medium pink with mauve undertones and looks very pretty when worn on it's own or topped over other lipsticks. It has no shimmer or frost and is decently pigmented and goes almost completely opaque. The consistency of these glosses is neither runny nor too thick but I'd say these are on the thinner side, which I like coz they are non sticky. The pigmentation of these isn't the same across all shades and the ones with shimmer are generally less pigmented than the pure colour ones.
These come in a clear round tube with a black shiny cap and have a bent doe foot applicator with a sponge tip. Pics below are clickable.

NYX Round Lipgloss in Pinky Natural

Ingredients

Bent doe foot applicator

Swatch-Pinky Natural

Yay for:

  • Nice pigmentation. Goes almost fully opaque
  • These are non sticky and quite shiny
  • Last about 3 hours before starting to fade
  • Fades evenly, leaving behind a slight sheen on the lips
  • Not drying, not moisturizing either
  • Very very inexpensive
  • Can be worn alone or over lipsticks

Nay for:

  • These have a slight smell to them which fades in sometime but some may have a problem with it. I personally find the smell of Mega Shine glosses evil compared to these. These I find are tolerable.
  • Availability is an issue

Overall I quite like this range of glosses from NYX and they are great value for money. These are non sticky and pigmented and available in a whole range of colours. I definitely recommend these to everyone. I've already ordered for "Real Nude" in my next order from BeautyJoint.

You can buy these from BeautyJoint.

My second order from BeautyJoint is here! Eeeeeee! (+ party OOTD)

Guys! Remember my second order from BeautyJoint? It came in yesterday! Sooo thrilled! The first time I ordered from them I mainly bought round lipsticks but I wasn't too happy with them and this time I did a lot more research and bought stuff that I'm totally in love with.

I'd placed the order on 28 November and it was shipped out on 1 December and reached me yesterday, on 16 December. Considering this is the holiday season , this is super impressive. Last time I'd gotten it within 10 days.

BUT.. This time after I eagerly ripped open the package and stopped drooling and hyperventilating I found a couple of items were missing- the Kleancolor nail polish in black and NYX round lipstick in Lousiana which was on back credit on my last order and was included in this. I dunno if BeautyJoint forgot to put it in ( but their invoice includes these and says total no of items=20 but I got only 18) or if it was flicked at customs (can they even do that?). But this time I think my package was opened at customs coz it had cello tape around the top which wasn't there last time and the self glue on the envelope was messed with. Sooo..I dunno! But I'm not that upset coz these 2 items were the least important ones in my list and I can easily get black nail polish here too (just thought Kleancolor is such great quality at that price) and I already have many neon pinks in my stash so don't miss Lousiana lipstick too. And these together cost only $4 so around Rs.200. Not a big loss but scary nonetheless. What If a more expensive item had gone missing *gasp*.

The package- see the cellotape at top?

Ze Goodies
Ok so he's what all I got this time. Do let me know if you want me to review anything first.

Got 3 jumbo eye pencils in Yoghurt, Iced Mocha and Cottage Cheese.
Got 3 soft matte lip creams in Stockholm, San Paolo and Antwerp
Got 1 jumbo lip pencil in Soft Fuchsia
Got 2 slim lip pencils on Rose and Sand Pink
Got the Studio clear face primer
Got the highlight and contour powder compact
Got 2 Kleancolor nail paints in Chunky Holo Black and Holo Purple
Got 1 NYX nail polish in Dorothy
Got 1 round lipgloss in Real Nude
Got LA colors pro primer stick eyeshadow base in black
Got NYX colour lip balm in Xie Xie
Got the NYX dual sharpeners coz the jumbo pencils and slim pencils don't fit in the regular ones we get here

Of these my favorites so far are the highlight and contour powder (would suit all Indian skin tones. Absolute must have), soft matte lip creams in Stockholm (the perfect nude with a hint of peach so it doesn't wash you out) and Antwerp (a light coral pink) and also the NYX color lip balm which is a non waxy hydrating lip balm with nice pigmentation so it gives a soft colour too. Oh and the Kleancolor holographic glitter nail paints too! Soo mesmerizing! :)

I'd ordered these on Cyber Monday sale and got 15% off on my total order and their rates are much lower than Cherry Culture or Pork Daisy's plus fast shipping so I totally recommend BeautyJoint to everyone.

I'll leave you with a picture of what I wore to a party last night. Was my boss' wife's b'day and they throw killer parties. I wore a one shoulder powder pink ruffled linen dress with pink pumps that I got from DroppedPin and authentic Japanese fresh water colored pearls and an amethyst cocktail ring.

OOTD

NYX primer and Revlon aqua finishing powder
But the real stars of the show were the NYX studio clear primer and the Revlon colorstay aqua mineral translucent setting powder. My makeup stayed fresh even after I came home after a good 4 hours despite all the sweaty dancing too (my face was sweating too and I remember dabbing at it with a tissue). Detailed reviews to soon follow.

NYX Mega Shine lipgloss in "Natural": Swatches and review

Everyone must have the perfect Nude lipstick in their make up kit. ...err..and the perfect red and perfect fuchsia and the perfect mlbb...oh anyway my search for the perfect nude lippie has brought another one to my stash. This time it's not a lipstick but a gloss. But then again this gloss behaves more like a liquid lipstick.
Anyhow, I bought this NYX Megashine Lipgloss from Cosmetix.in for Rs.371. It's available for much cheaper at BeautyJoint though. As always Cosmetix.in delivered this in 3 days. No complaints there. Btw I've noticed that Cosmetix.in seems to have the lowest rates for most items when compared to UrbanTouch or 365gorgeous or BLab. At par with StyleCraze I guess.

Coming back to the product, this Megashine Lip Gloss is very wrongly named I think. I ordered this in the shade called "Natural" which is a light creamy beige colour with no shimmer or frost. This colour appears beige with a hint of peach on my lips without looking milky even though it's lighter than my natural lip colour. I have to take care to apply a thin layer and press my lips together to spread it evenly. It might work better on someone with a lighter complexion. I'm NC40.  This shade can only be paired with intense smokey eyes or my face looks washed out. It can also be used to tone down darker/brighter lipsticks by layering a thin coat over those.
It's not High Shine at all! Or perhaps mine being shimmer- less feels that way perhaps. But generally i find glosses that have thinner consistency tend to look more shiny. This is just a very thick gloss though. This comes in a rectangular see through plastic tube with a black shiny cap with a pretty bow embossed on top. This packs 11mL of product and has a slanted doe foot, sponge tipped applicator. The first thing that hits you when you unscrew the cap is the smell! Ugh! I can't stand it! It tastes like cough syrup. Yuck. The gloss itself is really thick and slightly sticky and intensely pigmented. A little goes a long way coz if you apply a little extra it will gloop around your mouth.
Pics below are clickable for a closer look. :)

NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Natural

Ingredients

Bent doe foot applicator

Cute bow on the cap

Swatch
On my lips

Yay for:

  • Intense pigmentation. Goes fully opaque.
  • Thick consistency and slightly sticky so it lasts about 4 hours easily before starting to fade. Unless you eat a greasy meal of course, and eat your gloss along with it, like me.
  • Doesn't feel too heavy on the lips
  • Feels moisturizing. Lip balm not required underneath.
  • Fades quite evenly and even after it's gone it leaves the lips feeling moisturized and slightly shiny.
  • Quite inexpensive
  • Huge shade selection available

Boo for:

  • Yucky cough syrup smell
  • If you apply a little extra it will get gloopy
  • Not really "mega shine" like the name says
  • Availability is an issue

Overall, I'm on the fence about this one coz although it's nicely pigmented and lasts a decent time, the smell and the thick consistency put me off. Perhaps I should try this in another colour and see how it fares.

You can buy this from UrbanTouch, Cosmetix or BeautyJoint.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream- Addis Ababa and Monte Carlo: Swatches and Review

I'm in love. And not just with one, but 2 guys! And my lovers are not from around here. One's from Addis Ababa and the other's from Monte Carlo. Yeah baby! pssst.. But dont tell the husband. I just cant get enough of these guys. Wherever I go, I wanna take them with me, flaunt them. They make me feel sexy and beautiful. I'm talking about NYX's soft matte lip creams you guys! These are seriously the best lip creams I've ever tried. Oh and I've tried quite a few.
I've got these in 2 bright shades right now. Why bright shades? Coz bright shades work best when they're matte coz that way they stay on longer and dont smear or transfer to your teeth or chin or glasses or bleed. Matte is the only way to go when you're doing a bright lip, in my book atleast.

Addis Ababa: This is a bright fuchsia (pink with strong blue undertones) that really works well against my NC40 skin without looking too loud. On someone fairer, it might look too bright. But the best part is that this can be worn as a stain or as a full on matte lip colour. Goes on fairly opaque and does a good job of coverign any lip pigmentation. Bought this from BeautyJoint for $4.50 which is about Rs.300.

The texture of this is slightly different from Addis Ababa's in that its sort of oilier feeling. I dont think it has any oil content but just smooths on more easily and feels lovely on the lips, not drying at all. I picked this up from UrbanTouch for Rs.600.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo and Addis Ababa

Ingredients
Doe foot applicators
Swatches: Addis Ababa and Monte Carlo

Addis Ababa- natural light, no flash
Monte Carlo- immediately after application

Monte Carlo- after 20 mins, dry

Yay for:

  • Packaging is very nice. The top part is in a soft matte finish rubbery plastic which feels very expensive. And the tubes themselves match the colour of the lip cream.
  • Intense pigmentation. Goes on completely opaque.
  • Can be used as a stain (with just one coat) or a proper matte lipstick
  • Doe foot applicator makes application a breeze even with dark colours and you dont need a lipliner
  • The texture of these is just dreamy. Its like a whipped mousse and feels silky smooth on the lips.
  • No clumping or balling up.
  • Feels completely light on the lips. After a while doesnt feel like you have anything on at all!
  • Not drying like other matte lipsticks. But not moisturizing either.
  • Has a nice warm vanilla fragrance.
  • Applies wet but in about 20 mins dries to a full matte finish.
  • Once dry, it gets 90% transfer resistant. Wont transfer to cups or glasses.
  • Once dry also gets water resistant. So even if you accidentally lick your lips, it wont come off.
  • Last about 6 hours or till your meal, whichever is earlier.
  • Easy to remove. Comes off with soap and water or any make up remover.
  • Quite inexpensive. Especially if you buy it from sites like Beautyjoint or PorkDaisy.
Nay for:
  • Like any other matte lipstick this too may settle in the fine lines. But doesnt really look thaat bad. Doesnt make the lips look like the Sahara or anything but you might want to use a non glossy balm underneath to protect your lips.
  • Comes off when you eat and fades unevenly. You're left with a ring of colour (like a thick lipliner) after a greasy meal.
Overall, I love these and I'm definitely buying more. I think these are available in 11 colours. I strongly recommend the bright shades in these.
You can buy these at BeautyJoint, PorkDaisy or UrbanTouch. The cheapest is BeautyJoint though.

My Rating: ****

P.S: I recently heard that VOV has the exact same dupes for about Rs.100. Has anyone seen them? Does anyone know where I can find them in Chennai? I'd love to explore shades that are not available in NYX. :)

This time no NYX round lipsticks. I've fallen in love with the Soft Matte Lip creams, which btw I think are the best NYX product so ordered those in the remaining decent shades that I thought would work on my skin tone. :D And also a couple of Jumbo eye pencils, a lip pencil, some Holographic nail paints and make up staples like the Clear Primer and the Bronzer and Highlighter duo (both matte).
This time again my items were promptly shipped out within 2 days. I'd placed my order on Monday and it got shipped out on Wednesday. Hope they reach me within 2 weeks like last time.
With the dollar rate where it is the husband has strictly told me no more shopping from US sites. And solely because of this I've started following world economics and fervently hoping that the $$ falls against the Rupee. Sigh~ Till then I'll only be making LustLists I suppose.

NYX studio liquid liner in extreme plum purple: swatches and review

Ok gonna keep this review simple coz the product deserves just that. This is a no frills decent performing liquid liner. This is from NYX's range of studio liners and is in the shade extreme plum purple. This range has metallic shades that have a sheen to them even after drying.

This shade is a dark metallic purple and shows up beautifully on the eyes. I bought this from Cosmetix.in for Rs.351. The tube is quite small though and has 5.5mL of the product.

This comes in a regular tube with a wand applicator with an extremely thin brush tip.

Yay for:
  • Good pigmentation
  • Great colour that retains sheen even on drying
  • Feels comfortable after applying. In fact feels like you've applied nothing. No stretchy dryness.
  • Comes off easily with plain water. In fact what I like about the removal part is that this sort of peels/flakes off when it rub over it with water and doesn't really smudge and stain the area around the eyes like some other liners do. No mess, no dark circles.
  • Stays long without fading or feathering as long as you don't rub your eyes
  • Inexpensive
  • Cruelty free. Not tested on animals.
  • Applicator tip is very very thin so you can easily draw thin lines or thick ones.

Boo for:
  • Takes about 3-5mins to fully dry during which you'll have to keep your eyes shut especially if you have droopy or folded eyelids else it may transfer over the eyelid area.
  • The consistency is slightly runny so you may have to dab over the line to make the colour shine.
  • Can't use on waterline.

I like this liner. It's easy to apply and remove and feels comfortable. Would probably explore other shades too from this range

You can buy this here or here.

NYX liquid liner in electric blue: swatches and review

Like I've mentioned before I love blue liners and keep trying new ones and this one caught my eye. It's supposed to be a liquid liner that dries to a matte finish and is a brilliant cobalt blue. I saw this at UrbanTouch and twice I put this in my cart and both times it got sold out before I could add other items and checkout. Damn! I thought maybe it wasn't meant to be. But I got lucky the third time round. This time when I saw it was in stock, I immediately added this to my cart and checked out. Yay! I win!
This cost me Rs.360 from  UrbanTouch.

After an hour-see how it cracks. Ugh!

Yay for:
  • Good pigmentation. Awesome blue colour. Quite bright. Will suit Indian brown-black eyes very well
  • You can draw thin as well as thick lines with the applicator
  • Doesn't irritate the eye
  • Easily removed with water (I don't like waterproof eyeliners coz they're a pain to remove and I don't like tugging my eye area so washable is a plus in my book). In fact this gets washed too easily. Hold it under running water and it sort of flakes away! But it doesn't smudge with water.
  • Decently priced
  • Cruelty free. Not tested on animals.
  • Lead free

Boo for:
  • The tube is opaque so you can't see how much product is left
  • The consistency is quite thin and runny so you have to dab over and over the lines to make the colour show properly
  • When it dries, it turns to a matte finish but it feels stretchy, like when you have really dry skin.
  • Starts cracking and flaking in about an hour. Ugly!
  • Takes long to dry- about 3-5minutes. So people who have droopy or folded lids may find that it transfers over the lid if they don't keep it closed till fully dry.
  • Can't use on waterline.
  • Applicator end is not stiff so drawing shake-free straight lines is very tough, at least for me.

Overall, I think this is a dud. Buy it only if you love this colour and can't find it anywhere else coz the quality mostly sucks.
If you must, you can buy this here or here. Other shades also available.

My rating: *

Edit: I decided to give this another chance recently and wore it to a dinner do. I wore this over the NYX eyeshadow base in skin tone and after this semi-dried I pressed some matte powder eyeshadow of the same blue colour over it and found the cracks weren't visible then and it remained neat till I came back home, 3 hours later. Yay! Found a way to make it work! Coz I just love the colour. :)
